So what is the explanation?

What exactly is memory? Acoustic signals that are translated from the physio-mechanical realm of the ear to the electrical impulses the brain then uses to recall the memory of what a sound of that pitch/frequency really should sound like should not have drift value? Well... I guess they do after all. Live long enough and many things can change in the aging quantum computer we call our brain.
