I auditioned both as those were the two speakers on the short list and was prepared to buy either, and ended up selecting the Kanta 3s. The main reason was that, while both fantastic speakers, the Kantas were more agile and adaptable to many genres of music while the Sopras were best on fewer to my ears. The Kantas lose on bass weight to the Sopras but in my view won out in most other regards and felt like a more balanced speaker overall.
I listen to everything from jazz, blues, and vocal/acoustical music all the way to trance and house (and nearly everything in between). The Kanta is able to handle everything very well perhaps at the cost of not being truly spectacular in any one area. Which is a tradeoff I was happy to make.
