A little late with this, but...........
The Ortofon OM10 Super is a great inexpensive starting point. And, when you are ready for an upgrade both Turntable Needles & LP Gear offer the OM20 (bonded), or OM30 & OM40 (both nude) stylus, which all fit the same body.
The same is true of the Audio Technica VM740ML. When ready for an upgrade you can go with one of their better nude stylus.
To my ears, the Ortofon is a bit more 'laid-back' sounding then the very detailed AT cartridges. Which to go with depends on your other gear and your preference.
My 40yr-old factory rubber mat ain't what she used to be. Asking for a Herbie's or Achromat for Xmas.
