For what it's worth, Hi-Fi News really liked it, and I've found their reviews to be pretty thoughtful. My guess is the preamp will sound fine, depending of course on what you pair it with. The only concern I'd have is that it's a 10 year old design that still uses the Burr-Brown DAC, and there have been a lot of advances in DAC technology since that chip was introduced - but that doesn't mean it couldn't still sound great in a well-implemented design, which I'm sure the TAD is.
