Colleagues,

I was just wandering by and found this thread, so I'm a bit late but I too have and opinion or two.

1. A" sub" is necessary for music ,even if one has "full range" speakers, primarily because the room modes on low bass. Being able to move the "subs" is to get the best performance from an audio system.

2. 2 is better than 1.

3. Having "subs" frees up the main speakers from large excursions necessary for good low bass and will noticeably clean up the sound at concert volumes, even with fairly large 3 way speakers.

4.I know that many audiophiles enjoy listening to vinyl, and the low frequency's on vinyl are typically rolled into mono beginning around 160 Hz, some higher, some lower.

5. I do not know where Mr. Guttenberg lives, but if it is a 500 square apt. in Queens like my cousin lives in, small speakers might do. But really Steve, a 5 inch woofer for reproducing low bass?

It reminds me of an oft quoted statement by George Orwell;

There are some ideas so idiotic only an intellectual would believe them.
