Music does not have to be stored in a NAS. Music can be stored in your computer hard drive or in any USB drive that is connected to the computer running the Roon Core software.
You need to set Roon to look for music stored in whichever folder you want. You can have music stored in different locations (USB drives, computer main HD, NAS, etc.) and Roon can access all of them.
