The only thing I can think of is that it is preventing noise from the turntable's power supply from being distributed back out to the rest of the power distribution chain, which could help lower the noise floor for the system overall. It's AC, which mean it runs in...both directions.

This is why the NR filter as located in the plug at the compent end, rather than at the power distributor end, because it works more effectively there.

IIRC, this is why the "never connected to the AC mains" types of turntable power supplies, e.g. those from Michell, Rega, et. al. make a difference in the sound quality.
