The thicker ones certainly will show some difference in the very low end. You likely won't notice a huge difference between the two if you were to switch them out, but some subtle things will be more noticeable, like the separation between the kick drum and a bassline. The same goes for when thick traps are replaced by thicker traps. Mostly, everything stays the same, and you just get some bonus absorption shifted lower in frequency.

Of course you could always run a test in your room to decide whether you actually need thicker ones or not or if a few simple panels will really be all you need.
