It does because the 300z was also styled to have just a bit of the Datsun 240/280z heritage. You can even pick up on the Nissan GT-R roofline and other similarities in the styling cues.
The design of this new Z is an obvious and intentional retro appeal effort.
I think for most brands that have had success in the past and their products became icons, the designers would be wise to add tasteful elements of the history that translate well into the modern version. IMO, Nissan did a very good job. The 240/280z are classic designs that became timeless icons over the decades.
