Default Shunyata Alpha USB 1.5

I finally heard a definitive improvement of the Shunyata Alpha over my WW Platinum.

I streamed via Qobuz (24/96) Anne-Sophie Mutter and the NY Philharmonic’s recording of Beethoven’s Violin Concertos in D Major, Op 61. Recorded by Deutsche Grammephon. In particular, I listened to the last 6 minutes of movement 1, “Allegro ma non Troppo”. IMG_2588.JPG

This section presents huge dynamic swings. From Mutter’s very soft yet nuanced violin play, ever so subtle kettle drum notes to a full on orchestral ‘blast’. It is here where the Alpha shown its colors. Over and over again, it provides more detail in the softest passages and more control in the crescendos.

On a side note, I couldn’t stop listening to this fantastic recording and performance. This rivals and probably beats my other favorite classical recording of this same price, Itzhak Perlman with the Philharmonia Orchestra, Carlo Maria Giulini conducting. EMI Abbey Roads 1980.
