Who Here Owns EBR's (Evil Black Rifles)?
Even though I am new to this, I am about to embark on a build to create my very own EBR (Evil Black Rifle).
My inspiration, and ultimate goal, looks like this: http://cdn0.wideopenspaces.com/wp-co...4/03/AR-15.jpg Anyone else here own an EBR? |
never got the itch, I'm more into extreme accuracy when it comes to center fire rifle.
|
:) i thought this was going to be a black powder thread.. I would be interested in seeing this build go forward and its progress posted here.

Very nice, Ivan!
What's the build? |
Oh my goodness, Dan. M&P lower, Daniel Defense grips and some furniture, EOTech optics...very nice!
What is the upper? M&P as well? |

It began life as a pre-ban Colt M4, then it got Ivanized. :D |

Ivan,
The only pre-ban AR I've handled was my issued M-16 back in the day. It wasn't all that accurate but we did have fun at full auto. :) Steve, Those are nice gats!!! Dan, That's quite the list and you did well with your choices! |

I like it!!!

I have everything I could think of on it; Surefire tac-light (500 lumens) blue night navigation LED's. ACOG top sight; red, green, laser sights, tactical charging handle. ;)
|
hmmm...it seems my parts list is growing! ;)

Our mid-range course record is a perfect 600 with 39-X (out of 60) at 600yd with an EBR (forgotten which round he was shooting). That was with aperture sights (not a scope). Just been notified my 6mmDasher is ready so will have to pick it up when I'm back in town next week. Gotta luv all the 'evilness'. |

Once I decide on the upper and lower, the build begins! |

The 'group tightening' of the various 'black gun' offerings has in fact improved some of the most. Les Baer, along with his fine 1911's offers some accurate rifles as well. |
I've secured the rifle and optic, finally getting some time to mount the optic and do a little work to set proper eye relief. I also put aside about 1,500 rounds of ammo for sighting in and testing.
I have a few accessories on the way this week such as a sling, sling mounts, bipod, etc... so it will look a bit different than it does now. I tore it all apart Friday night, inspected all the parts, replaced the firing pin retaining cotter key for a real retention pin, lubed it up and then put it all back together again. Hopefully I'll get some range time in this next weekend, weather permitting. For now, it's a virgin. Here's my new Ruger SR556 Takedown model: http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...psbjv57one.jpg Vortex Viper optic (1 - 4 x 24, illuminated MOA reticle and multi-dot BDC) was added yesterday. Got it pretty much lined up and ready for zero but I don't think it will take much at all. Had to remove the rear sight to make this work, which is OK as the optic reticle works illuminated or not. I'll make sure the rear sight is in my go bag though, just in case. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...psqqsizlqq.jpg My neighbor, a Afghan war vet, came over and he's all bummed out. He no longer has his issue M4 and now he wants an AR so bad he's drooling on mine. :D I'll take him out with it and we'll go have some fun after I zero this one in. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...psq6i2jaec.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...psm5avd2os.jpg |

Get 'em while you can.

I've done a few tweaks to the Ruger and thought I'd share.
Added a bit more powerful scope, going from the Vortex Viper PST 1-4x24 to a Vortex Crossfire II 3-9x40. These old eyes need just a bit of help at the longer distances out beyond 100 yds with only 4x magnification. I also added the bi-pod and the forward grip on the bottom of the rail. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a1...psmdb4h7kl.jpg I also made an addition to the EBR group recently with a S&W MP 15-22. This should be a fun plinker and with the right ammo, deadly on them pesky little ground squirrels out on the farm. :D I have a list of accessories for this one. The aforementioned Viper PST 1-4x24 scope will go on this one for sure plus a few functional additions will be made. |
Very nice (but I'm not sure Hillary would approve ;)). Are you planning on any 3-gun or other action shooting with them?
|
Yes, I will use the 15-22 as an AR training tool. The handgun portion is covered by my .45 Champion Lightweight Operator and the shotgun portion is yet to be determined.
I remember thinking that I didn't really care what either of the candidates or their political party thought about my upgrades or acquisitions. :D |

I love those Sig units!!!

My M&P 15-22 arrived and it was barely out of the box when the Viper Vortex PST 1-4x24 optic was installed.

Try to make it a 30 caliper not 223

??????? ......... it all depends on what you plan on doing with it. |

The 5.56 is mostly for fun, some 3-gun action and the occasional varmint hunt for coyote and feral pigs. You don't need a thirty to take those down at reasonable ranges. |
