How Do You Clean Your Stylus?
My brother texted me this morning saying he's read that Peter Lederman does not recommend using the Onzo Zero Dust. Not sure why, but presumably because it could dislodge the stylus from the cantilever? Apparently he recommends using a small piece of Blue Tac.
I stopped using MOFI LP #9 because Peter said not to use it. So I got an Onzo. My question is, how is Blue Tac less sticky and less likely to cause damage than the Onzo? :scratch2: I have 2G's invested in my Paua Mk. II. Not a fortune to some, but it was a steep price for me even at 50% off. I intend on using it for a very, very long time. So hit me up. What do you use and why do you think it's safe to use. |
I have always used an Onzo Zero Dust, even with my most expensive cartridge; ClearAudio Goldfinger V2.
No issues whatsoever. :) |
Me too! For years with no issues!

Growing up, we just used our finger. It’s been a long long time since I’ve done that. :roflmao:
Past few years, I’ve also been using Zero Dust (on Ivan’s suggestion actually). Works great. Attachment 63701 |
Onzow Zerodust as well with no issues. I also had a DS Audio ST-50, which works very well.

Just ordered one!

The key is to lower the stylus, make contact; and raise. Don’t let it sit there for any length of time.

Yes, I have mine mounted on a small block next to the platter so I don’t have to put it on the platter and can just lower the stylus before and after each play. Attachment 63705 |

I did damage my Sumiko Blackbird with the Onzow but that was user error.
In part it was because the Onzow was a relatively thick profile and didn’t fit on the platter under the cartridge even when the tonearm lever was raised. So I had to use my hands to raise and lower the tonearm manually and it eventually damaged the cartridge (lost the bounce and the cart body touched the vinyl surface). I’m guessing some minor but damaging sideways movement. Now I use the DS Audio one which works the same way but is much slimmer in profile so I can just place it on the platter and use the tonearm lever to raise and lower the arm. |
Thank you for this timely and informative thread:thumbsup:. I was nervous about using a brush on my Clearaudio Strad and the Onzo seems to be the perfect solution. So an Onzo zerodust is now on it's way here.

My same combo as well. Never an issue.

I took my TruClean, removed the blutak and replaced it with a piece of zero dust.
