New McIntosh Processor and Amp
 

McIntosh has two new products on the site today, the MX100 AV Processor
and the MI347 7 Channel Amp.

That MI347 looks very interesting. It got me thinking about having one amplifier for all my speakers. Specification wise it would work but I'd miss having the headroom my MC501s give me for my front R/L speakers.

The new MX100 is a very weird product. $5000 for a HT processor that isn't even out yet and is already outdated.

HDMI 2.1 devices are now hitting the market and pretty much every TV from now on will have HDMI 2.1 ports so releasing a processor that only has 4 HDMI 2.0 ports in 2020 is a very strange choice.

I agree with you, but if you have a projector like most theaters do, projectors don’t have HDMI 2.1 yet anyways. Just like the 123 and 170.

I am curious if this is a stripped down 123 (I see mic input) with similar menus and functionality. If so, I dig it. More companies need to start ditching legacy connections that we all pay for and most people never use!

The 170 is the closest thing to a hotrodded 100 IMO. Minimal analog connections, however I would say even excessive HDMI connections.. really... 8 inputs and 4 outputs? Lol who uses that... come on now..

I REALLY like what the 100 stands for. I hope a very premium version of it is offered in the future.

Now that I see a 8ch, 7ch, 4ch rack mount class D amp... you have to know a 1000 watt mono has to of been discussed... that has to be on the roadmap..

I have a very basic system and I have 7 HDMI sources: Desktop PC, MacBook, iPad, Apple TV, Xbox, Playstation, Switch. My current receiver only has 6 inputs so I share the HDMI between my MacBook and iPad since they use the same USB C adapter.

Also I totally agree I like the spirit of this thing I think it just needs more HDMIs. RCAs on a HT processor aren't really necessary anymore especially considering the fact that McIntosh has the really nice passthrough feature on their preamps.

I’m intrigued. I use a C2600 in pass through in my system. My Marantz 8802 has none of its analog inputs used at all.

For me, the only missing piece would be an all digital 4K universal player to top it off.

My two channel will always be more important to me :-)

I can see a use if I upgrade the two channel system to also do home theater. I would use HT bypass on my C53 and keep the mostly 2-channel use. When the mood strikes, I could expand to Atmos.

One disadvantage is that there is no analogue multichannel input.
For example to connect the brand new exaSound e68.
But as that device has a volume control, people might prefer to connect it directly to a power amp anyway.

The e68 has an internal VC and up/down buttons but no knob, just like its predecessors. There is, however, more stuff coming from exaSound. :yes:
