so I just got an MCD 1100

I like it and the DAC sounds better than the one in the c 50, I am amazed by the sometimes Subtle sometimes glaring differences between the two, when I go back and listen to the one in the c50 the difference is really apparent to me.

the side effect of this, is I am now curious to see the next version of this DAC that appeared later and was wondering what others who are using the DAC that would be a "step up" from the 1100 and wondered what the forums recommendations would be for further improvement, if any.

what would you say? another related question, what DAC is in the MCD 600?

I have had an MCD 1100 for many years. It is a fine CD/SACD player and DAC. I enjoy using it anytime I spin a silver disc. It is the last of the premier ‘3D’ glass front McIntosh CD players. It sounds great.

I do have several DAC’s that I use more frequently...

My Schiit Yggdrasil gets the most playing time, and a Benchmark DAC3 HGC lives in a second system and gets used fairly frequently.

The number and variety of DAC options is mind-boggling.

Congrats! I was close to picking the one up that was here in the market recently. I've had a few different DACs, and still do, but I think the major differences I found were psychological of having a new thing. The older I get the less I want to switch inputs around on my C2300, power this and that thing up, etc. Some day I'll likely grab a MCD1100 as an all in one and be happy w/that.

at first I thought the difference might be in my head, but it isn't because I do have cd's that DO NOT sound better, it varies from disc to disc.
