I think that's trivialising the work that the engineers have done. Sure you could roll off the highs with a filter but that also introduces other effects.

What B&W have done with the longer Nautilus tube is to reduce the back reflection from the enclosure behind the tweeter. In some ways, I am reminded of what KEF did with the Meta. Its a subtle change which doesn't change the underlying character of the tweeter but reduces the effect of the back wave reflections.

That’s completely not what I heard.

As with D2 and D3 models, there are no resistors in the signal path to the tweeter in the D4.

Summary:

I’ll make it an easy comparison for some of you, the 802D3 sounds like great digital, the 802D4 sounds like great vinyl.

Unequivocally, for me, the 802D4 is best speaker I have experienced (for my preferences and biases) in a medium sized room.

Well I hope I love great digital as I have pair of 802D3s on the way! ;)

I love my 802D3 speakers.... I think you will be very happy

Joey, did you end up with 802D4s? Really enjoyed reading your write-up! Curious as to how they sound in your room vs showroom.
