Accuphase transport

How reliable is the Accuphase CD/SACD player and transport? Any issue or drive failure?

They look very well built. I don't see much complaints on the web, which is a good sign.

Tommy… as a long time dealer; I have never experienced, nor even heard of a transport issue.

My DP-900, acquired in June 2014, had to undergo repairs in April 2021.
From some time, the unit could not read SACD (diodes replaced). AFAIK this problem had shown up earlier in a few other units of this type. Unfortunately the warranty period had already expired.
In addition, the unit could not keep track on a commercial CD with a considerable number of C2 errors (29) and jitter, though within redbook specs (system controller assembly replaced).
The repairs had me wait for 4 weeks and did cost me $1815.

Nobody is perfect, not even Accuphase.

Thank for the info Ivan and Martin.

I suppose 7 years for a spinning drive is reasonable?

Slightly off topic, but the Jay’s Audio transport has a user replaceable laser. Won’t fix everything, but nice that they thought about that. I suspect though that Accuphase and Esoteric are solid on CDs - still quite the format in Japan as far as I understand it.

It's ways too short. And it was not the spinning drive itself, which was defective, but the electronics.
Diodes may occasionally fail.
But having to replace the system controller assembly (the electronics, which control the servo of the drive) is something else.

Strange.
Expensive Accuphase collapsing so fast.
I've several CD-players here, among others a Philips 373 from 1988 and a Naim from the nineties and still going strong without any problem.
