Aspen FR30 Speakers

Anyone own a pair or at least heard them?

Very interesting looking speaker. I wasn't impressed with PS Audio's first reference speaker effort. This one, however, looks to be a whole different animal.

Hard Pass

I think they look awesome.

Seem pricy though.

There is an awful amount of strong competition at that price point. Canton Ref K1’s for starters.

That says a lot Ivan. I remember they were working with Arnie Nudell (before his untimely death) on a reference speaker that they tried to finish with Arnie's son (if memory serves). I listened to that speaker at the PS Audio room at the Marriot Tech Center in 2018 and hated them.

Over the course of 3 days I went back to that room hoping for some improvement that never happened. So it's a bit surprising that this new speaker isn't killing it either.

Speakers are a quirky component perhaps best left to the specialist in that arena.

I also happen to know a bit more than the average consumer does about these.

I think PS Audio eliminating their dealer network was not wise.

They dropped the Arnie Nudell speaker project and went a different route. They hired an audio engineer Chris Brunhaver who revamp the entire speaker. Listening to Chris speak it sounds like he knows a few things about speaker design. It might be worth a listen but like mentioned it’s a tough market to be a new comer to.

Mysterious and curious. If I was serious about these speakers I definitely would be asking for more. :scratch2: If anyone knows it’s you.

I agree. Why do that? You'd spent so many years developing a compreshensive network and then BAM!, you dump it? :dunno:

And if they hung out some dealers in the process?, Now that's a big time sin.

I imagine it must have been in part due to the deep discounts dealers were giving on new components. I ordered a few PS Audio components around half off that were shipped to me directly from Boulder. Even at half of MSRP, there were still profits being made. I can't imagine paying full price for anything PS Audio now.

As a dealer for 18 years; there were never deep discounts. PS Audio makes less profit now, since they terminated their entire Global sales force.

An event I dare say is an unrecoverable one.

Ivan - I've been curious how PS Audio has been doing since they eliminated their dealers......any non-proprietarty information you could share??? They seem to still be rocking the advertising etc. Any information on the health the company??

One point about the speakers that's surprising to me given their price point is that they're made in China. PS Audio always promoted the fact that their electronics were made in house in Colorado.

The fact is none of their electronics were made in Colorado. Just final assembly; all parts are from Taiwan & China. :confused-22:

Similar to Michael Kelly's forgetting to mention that his "Made in the USA" Aerial Acoustics speakers (from China) are only "assembled" over here. Still trying to wash that egg off his face.

Exactly... I wonder how much the small Aspen FR10 speakers would cost...coming soon.
