New MC462

Well, after almost nine years of enjoying my Balanced Audio Technology VK-250SE power amplifier, I just replaced it with a new McIntosh MC462 which arrived yesterday.

Lord that thing is heavy!

Congratulations

Congrats. Would like to hear your thoughts about it after you've had a few hours on it.

I just put a deposit on one this morning. Looking forward to your thoughts on it.

I watched this Audio Excellence Canada video last night reviewing the McIntosh MI254. Vilip Mak spent the whole video talking about the MC462, how it is his dream amplifier, and how he wishes he could afford it to drive his Wilsons. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQm4jqs4dnQ

I went from a 312 to 462 last December. My MC462 makes me smile every single day.

Sasha Matson bought the review sample. That usually speaks volumes.

For fresh out of the box, it sounded a lot better than I expected. There have been a couple of songs where the bass struck me as a little subdued, but I don't feel that on every song. I'll continue to let it break in.

The main thing that I've had trouble getting used to is that I have to crank the volume on my preamp higher for a given level of sound that I hear. I assume that this is because the MC462's gain is lower than the VK-250SE's, and I believe that the mc462's input sensitivity is numerically higher.

If I could get the same 'reviewer price' as Sasha I would likely also be a buyer.

FWIW I traded in my 1 year old 462 for a pair of 611's. Not sure if we can promote dealers here but if anyone is interested, PM me and I will pass along the dealer. Not sure if they still have it but it was like new condition. And boy are they heavy.
