Low level hum/buzz driving me CraZy!

Help guys! I have a low level hum/buzz coming through my speakers even without signal from source. When playing a cd, the hum does not vary with volume changes in music. I'm using CJ GAT with CJ LP140's. Thought it was the input/driver tubes in the amps, but replaced those today. Then replaced Telefunkens in the GAT with some Amperex & no change. Tried to make sure my power cables were spaced out about 4" from my interconnects or @ right angles to interconnects to no avail. Hmmm. Sound is fine as long as you crank it up over the annoying buzz which is easily heard 8' from my seating position. Certainly makes low level listening unenjoyable. Have been too busy to order new input/driver tubes for amps over last couple of months, but I don't recall the buzz being this loud.

Verity Audio Amadis speakers are 93db sensitive @ 8ohms. I have a new Ayon CD 3-sx red book CD player in for demo for the next 15 days. Guess I should have made sure all my tube (or other issues...damn) were worked out prior to having a demo unit shipped in.

Any thoughts fellas? I'll be calling CJ tomorrow as well. I guess this is some sort of EFI/ground loop issue.

Thanks,

John

Are you sure it is not a ground loop issue?

I'm not suggesting this as a permanent solution, but to troubleshoot you might want to try floating the ground on your mono amps by using cheater plugs. If that eliminates the buzz you will have confirmed that you have a ground loop issue and can then determine the best way to address it with help from CJ.

Thanks for response and link on cheater plugs.

Without signal, but other components still connected?

Disconnect preamp interconnects from amp and see if it still hums or not.

I've never dealt with ground loop issues before. Do I need to connect the CD player directly to the amps & play a cd or are you saying to just have amps connected to speakers with no other equipment hooked up & turn on the amps & listen for hum?

Thanks Ivan. How do you think the AMR cd77 would compare to this Ayon cd3-sx I'm demoing? Do you still sell the AMR players?
