Q Up Tonearm Lifter

The Q Up looks like an interesting device to lift a manual tonearm from an album's leadout groove. Has anyone tried this device?

Dan... I have seen this device up close in operation. On most tonearms, including the one I saw it on; it really whacks the tonearm up and bounces a few times.

I would definitely not own one, or recommend it.

It is worse than this video even shows.

Ivan.......Thank you for the feedback. This is my biggest concern. I certainly do not want my tonearm flipped up or crashing back down from being whacked by a lifter.

The second video shows the arm being lifted rather softly, so I wonder if the one you saw was properly adjusted. The first video shows there is adjustment for the lifting force. Perhaps the one you saw operating was not set up properly.

Dan... Keep your eye out for the Audio Technica AT6006:

This is the one to own  I was fortunate to find a few of these brand new. I have seen them sell for ridiculous premiums; well over $150 each

There is also a YouTube video of it out there.

Ivan.......Yes, a viscus damped lifter would be ideal. With all the manual turntables now in use, I am very surprised one of the better turntable companies hasn't created an adjustable tonearm lifter to meet the damand that must surely be there.

What happens if you are slow to lift the stylus off the lp at the end?

Can't be good for the needle to let it sit in the run out groove for very long?

It just sits there in the lead out groove with the record going round and round. Nothing much happens if you remember to lift it within the first few minutes, but, if you are like me, you might find it still turning the next Friday or or maybe sometime next month.

Stylus wear is the biggest bugbear.

Back in the day (e.g. 30 years ago), I had a Que-up for a Thorens. I found it unreliable and clunky, and ended up not using it in the end.

I don't worry about having a lift. When I play records, I don't leave the stylus in the lead-out groove for long.
