Jon's (JMT350Z) modest system

I don't have much space in my listening room, but I do like my system and enjoy the room.

Modest? That set up is awesome. The cozy corner is very inviting. Happy listening...

Randy Myers 04-14-2016 11:17 AM

Nice looking system there!

chessman 04-14-2016 11:18 AM

Beautiful rig!

mtroo 04-14-2016 11:27 AM

Love the combination of the c2300 and the Mc275.

Weirdcuba 04-14-2016 11:29 AM

Looks lovely.

jdandy 04-14-2016 11:32 AM

Jon.......That is a fine looking sound system. The C2300 and the MC275 are always a fabulous combination. I like those record storage cabinets, too. It looks like a fine place to relax and enjoy music.

Jon, thank you for sharing.
That is a very nice and inviting room.
Love your chair too!

Thank you, I am looking to replace my Martin Logans with a pair of Vandersteen 2A Signatures. Haven't heard them but have read nothing but good things about them.

That is not a modest system.... :D I think you will like the Vandersteen speakers and have read great things as well. You are getting a lot for your money.......:music: Please post a review.

Jon - nothing wrong with the Vandy 2As......those are outstanding speakers, I've listened to them at one of the dealers here and they are really nice. I've never heard a Vandersteen I didn't like.

vinod_david 05-10-2016 08:34 AM

Nice stereo setup. But, when are you removing the TV?

mtroo 05-10-2016 08:59 AM

Jon,
Do you need to update your signature line?:scratch2:

cma29 05-10-2016 02:11 PM

Very nice rig. Thanks for sharing.

(Only in a place like AA would such a system be considered "modest.")

I've needed an SACD player since I sold my SCD-555ES so I picked up this MVP-861 for a very reasonable price. I think it needs a new laser because it seems to only read the redbook layer of hybrid discs. But, it does sound very good.

Jon.......Are you selecting the SACD layer by pressing the far left SACD/CD button?

JMT350Z 10-11-2016 03:14 PM

No, I thought the player would automatically select it.

jdandy 10-11-2016 03:29 PM

Jon.......Give this a try. With no CD in the CD tray and the tray drawer closed, press the CD/SACD button until the display shows SACD. After that the player should play both without further intervention. It will first look for the SACD layer, and if not found it will play the CD layer. Try an SACD, then try a CD. Let me know if it works.

JMT350Z 10-11-2016 09:03 PM

Thanks Dan, the only selections are:
  • Multi
  • CD
  • Stereo
I changed the setting to stereo, we'll see what happens.

Edit: Thanks Dan, worked like a charm.

Jon:

Are those record storage cabinets the ones by Gothic or another company? I just bought something similar. If mine come out like that I'll be very happy.

Nice modest (cough...cough) system!!

jdandy 03-19-2017 11:33 AM

Jon.......Your sound system has taken a very nice step up. The Esoteric K-03, Lyra Delos cartridge, and the Sonus Faber Venere 3.0 loudspeakers raised the bar substantially. Your sound system is looking and no doubt sounding very good. Congratulations on assembling a sweet rig. . :applause:

Yes they are from Gothic. I bought unfinished and did the finishing work myself. I like them because they're durable, stackable and hold a lot of vinyl.

Awesome! I bought a 2 shelf with base set yesterday. Looking forward to getting it home (in several weeks).

vinod_david 03-19-2017 11:09 PM

JMT, am thinking of SF Ven 2.5. Since all Ven are front ported, can i keep it close to back wall say lest than 1 feet, and should they be always angled?

JMT350Z 03-20-2017 07:30 PM

I don't see why you couldn't keep them close to the back wall. There is nothing in the back of the Venere's to impede from a sonics standpoint.

bodiezaffa 03-20-2017 10:21 PM

I'm in a cold and damp unfinished basement at the moment. I'd take a good sounding comfortable room like yours, any day.
Happy listening.

JMT350Z 03-21-2017 09:48 AM

Vinod, just saw the second part of your question. As far as toeing in the speakers, I would suggest there are factors to consider. Room size, listening position, room acoustics, etc. I initially positioned my speakers without the bases so they would be easy to maneuver on the carpet. When they were positioned so they sounded the best I marked the area with tape, installed the bases and placed them on oak cutting boards. That allows me to fine tune the position as needed.
