Yggdrasil Break In

Incoming Schiit Yggdrasil from the AA Marketplace.
(Thanks Greg!)

How many hours before you noticed your DAC really taking flight wrt sound quality?

Tom.......After 100 hours you are on the home stretch. By 200 hours I noticed very minor differences, and that was playing the same tunes every time during the entire break-in period. You will become addicted to this DAC. It is remarkable. Don't forget to leave the DAC energized 24/7 as recommended in the manual.

If you haven't read it yet, you might enjoy my Schiit Audio Yggdrasil Review . The Oppo BDP-95 I was using as a transport has been replaced with the Simaudio Moon Neo 260 D-T transport. The Yggdrasil DAC and the Moon 260 D-T are a force to be reckoned with. Truly excellent reproduction, as is the Aurender N100H and the Yggy. Happy listening, and looking forward to reading your impressions.

Thanks Dan - I did read your review - though it was some time ago. Looks like the Yggy I'll be getting has about 75 hours on it - so more goodness to come after the initial impressions.

I bought mine based on Dan’s review, no regrets, love my Yggy!

Dan....reading this thread and looking at this photo, I'm remembering how impressive the "Yiggy" was during my recent visit. I was equally impressed with your Moon Audio transport....I could live with one of those all day, along with the DAC!

Pete.......I love my Yggdrasil, Moon, Aurender digital front end. I even have my 4K Sony widescreen TV feeding the Yggy via fiber optic. Music is astonishing, and TV and movies through my two channel living room system never sounded better.

Dan....yep, that is one super enviable setup. For. Sure.

@W9TR- Turn it on, leave it on, and in a month you'll be astonished.

Will do! And I’ll feed it bits all the time.

Schiit's in the house

The YggY arrived in perfect condition last Friday. Thanks Greg!

Setup was the easiest ever - as soon as I connected the USB cable my Surface Pro downloaded the correct driver automagically and asked for a reboot. Done.

What was interesting was that all this went on before I turned on AC power to the DAC, so the USB input is powered by the source component.

It's been fed a constant stream of bits for the past 36 hours.

This morning I started listening for the first time. Very impressive. Can't wait for the full break in period to be over.

One interesting thing so far. I compared straight Redbook 44.1 kHz/16 bit into the DAC with 4x up-sampling and 24 bit interpolation by JRiver and the latter sounds much more natural and relaxed.

Tom
