New K-300i Integrated
http://www.krellonline.com/integrated-amps.html
Review in the latest Stereophile gives it a very high rating. For someone looking for a mostly "1-box" solution (me?) it might be just the ticket. Think I would purchase without the optional DAC card and wait for an upgrade or two on same. Did speak with Krell directly and was informed that all Krell products are built in the USA (which is important - NA, Europe or Japan - no "low bidder" builds for me). http://https://hometheaterreview.com...hite-20844.php |
I have two of the old KAV-300i's that I bought new years ago. They still sound great. They don't get much use any more but I still think they are amazing integrated amps and they have never given me any trouble.

I just got a new K300i to drive new Maggie .7. I put amp
In a shelf but with some clearance above it and beside it. It rans hot and while I cranked it up during cables matching up, the amp shut down in 30 minutes with message “over temp, 81 C” I think Maggie .7 drew lots of current at fairly loud volume (60) and the iBias push the Class A bias up high. I am not sure even I put it in free air amp stand it will be Cool enough. I think it needs a USB fans. Toga |

Thanks for posting. If memory serves, the Stereophile measurement test is generally 60min at 1/3 power and their test sample shut-down after 55min. I was interested in one to use with a pair of 1.7i Maggies, but your experience makes me wonder if it would be a good match. On the flip side, I rarely listen at anything more than 72db, so it might not be a problem.
You will likely have to "play" with the fan location as the heatsinks are in what I would call a non-standard location. https://www.audioaficionado.org/atta...1&d=1607736391 |
New K-300i Integrated
I had 1.7i in other room using baby NAD C338 to drive it to fairly loud.
But it didn’t sound like audiophile sound at all, just loud. On a contrary, K300i makes .7 sing very beautifully and powerfully, I just need to find the way to cool it down. Yes I noticed the hidden small heatsink too. Air flowing above the unit from back to front may be find, I will try. It did not shutdown at volume of 50, only at 60 did it shut down. Toga |

Now waiting for the on board streamer DAC.
Using Marantz ND8006 temporarily. Speaker cables are Transparent Super G5. Choosing power cord today. Between Transparent older model, PLMM2X, Siltech Crown Prince, Synergistic Galileo UEF. I think I like Powerlink PLMM2X To the Krell and Crown Prince To Marantz most. UEF was not practical for tight spaceAttachment 63686Attachment 63687Attachment 63688 |

No more shut down with cooling fan.. Next year I will bring 1.7i to try with Krell, and move .7 to use with NAD C338 instead. |
