Some More Pics

Here are some new pics of my MC3500 doing 350 watts easily during the Paul Simon Concert in the Park. One of my favorite Laser Discs. Sonics and picture quality superb.

Nice!

Charles, be truthful. Are your ears ringing this morning? :scratch2:

OTOH, is that 350 watts at 76%?

And, of course, very nice pics.

Charles 06-05-2022 11:45 AM

Freddie, yes volume set at 76%. On Diamond's on Soles of Her Shoes the drum solo sounded like it was in my room. That's what hit 350+ watts. Thor was L + R, only at about 30-40 watts I think. I wasn't paying much attention to it. There are very few tube amps available that will do 500 watts/ch at any price.

My ears are fine (I know you were joking, but there is an element of seriousness too). When the sound is absolutely clean there seems to be no upper limit. It's loud, but not loud.

Best

Hi Charles,

Amazing that you can turn your system up to 76%. You might measure the volume in your room for safety. Seriously. When I went to my primary care physician re tinnitus, he asked if I listened to headphones. When I told him Stax--he smiled appreciatively, but then warned that one problem with super high fidelity is that the lack of distortion eliminates the clues that we are too loud for our own good.

Best

On the other other hand, Stax at any given volume give me far lower listening fatigue than other headphones, so that's got to count positively for something :)

Most other headphones have all kinds of ringing and resonance and distortion issues that can cause nasty spikes in treble (among other things) and I feel like that's got to contribute to hearing damage at some point.

But yes, be mindful of your listening levels and durations. I have to wonder how efficient (or not) OP's speakers are. 350 Watts into my 96dB / Watt Tannoys, and nobody's coming out of the room alive lol. I do like the idea of power meters like on McIntosh, but I have to wonder about their accuracy too.

Charles....stunning array of McIntosh power. I have no doubt the performance level is breathtaking. Beautiful!

There is ZERO wondering about the accuracy of the McIntosh meters!

That is awesome Charles. What was on the receiving end of those amps?
