Curiosity is my friend
I have two pair of headphones; Sennheiser HD650 and Audeze LCD3. I use them with the phone Jack on my Mc C2300 Jack and they audibly seem to play well. I am curious what I may be missing by not using a dedicated headphone amp such as the Bryston BHA-1. Any feedback, suggestions, and opinions are welcomed and appreciated.

I do not have your specific components. However, I do have a pair of Senn HD-650s. I struggled for quite some time with hearing the “veil” people talk about. I kept thinking maybe I was just being sensitive. I was at the point of offering them up… thinking they were just not a match for me. I was wondering what I was missing that so many others raved about. At the time, I was mostly driving them out of the headphone port of my Bryston BP17 cubed, which was more than serviceable for my other cans. When I got the Schiit Mjolnir 2 (I also highly considered the BHA-1), set on balanced and high gain, man those 650s bloomed! The “veil” was lifted, and I saw her beautiful face. I have no doubt the BHA-1 could have similar results. I am interested to hear what others have to say.

Kevin… as an owner of over a dozen Headphones, I can attest to the incredible performance gained by using a separate dedicated headphone amp.
For all but my Electrostatic phones, I have found the Bryston BHA-1 to be the best for buck hands down. |
Thank you both for your valuable input. The BHA-1 is on my radar and the blip is strong. The impedance of the Senn 650 is 300 ohms while the Audeze is only 110. No problem for the BHA-1?

Curiosity won the battle. I decided upon a Cardas Clear XLR cable for my Audeze LCD-3 open back h-phones, and, feedback, guidance, reading reviews and temptation by Ivan I have decided upon a Bryston BHA-1 headphone amp. I will also add a pair of Audeze LCD-XC closed back h-phones for late night listening. My excitement is part of the journey.
