Reference 7K Review

About time. JA at Stereophile has a pair of Ref 7K in for review. The speaker I'm most interested in as an upgrade from my Ref 9K. Hopefully, he will find they play well with 20-30wpc of Class A power.

Have only read one review of the smaller end of Canton's Reference line, which was the Ref 8K from someone in Australia, and he loved them.

Good to know, Glenn... Usually for Cantons more power, just open up, if make sense. This is what I find, after four Cantons.

My experience is that 20wpc of Class A trumps everything else I've used (up to 250wpc - Accuphase, McIntosh & Bryston) with my 9Ks.

Glenn...
Okay, I have not heard class A amps. The best ones in my room, Mcintosh MC352 and now MC501's, and the 501 is way better in every spec.
You don't think, the 7K is going to almost of the same? I would think Canton 5k going to be a really much better (size of room probably matter to!?).

Sensitivity is rated at 88.5db. Not the most efficient for 20 watts IMHO.

My Ref 9Ks are even less efficient and work extremely well with 20wpc of Class A.

Just finished a first read of JA's review in the Sept '21 issue of Stereophile (arrived today). Was gratified to read that JA's positioning would approximate what I would do in my room. He was very positive on both his listening results and his measured results. Too bad this year's stereo budget is being allocated to unexpected dental work. :icon_thumbsdown:

I feel for you. Crowns and implants suck. As does growing older.

Yes, but it beats the alternative (being buried young :D).

Yep. Always happy to be here. Figure I have enough years left (my family generally lives past 90 - grandmother to a couple of weeks short of 102) that I can wait another year for new speakers. Plus, I'm very pleased with how my current system with the Ref 9Ks sounds on all sorts of music.

Also, I would agree with JA's review in that sound-stage and imaging are excellent with the Canton Reference speakers. The other online review I've found of the smaller floor-standers is from Australia on the Ref 8Ks. If anything, it is even more glowing in its report.

I'm very happy with my Cantons!
