Suppressors
I am starting to research supressors for a 5.56 Nosler Varmeggedon. It works best when the Praire Dogs don’ know you’re there.
Does anyone have suggestions on brands? Things to avoid? Any other tips? I believe I will put it in a trust unless there is a compelling reason not to do so. Thanks. |
Tim... I own many Suppressors, they are Class III and require special licensing per States that permit them.
That said, look at Gemtech and AWC. https://www.guntrustlawyer.com/monta...ors-silencers/ |
Tim, interesting bullet, it appears outwardly to be a flat based variant of the old Ballistic Tip which is a boat tail.
Tell us more about the gun you're gonna use it in ...... |

I do in fact shoot a Varmegeddon bullet. It is the varmint version of the Ballistic tip. I shoot the Varmeggedon 55 grain .223 out of the Varmeggedon AR. https://www.nosler.com/varmageddon-ar-rifle/ |

I was reading on the below website and I am not certain you still need a Class III license. From:https://www.silencershop.com/silencer-questions 3. Do I need a special license to own a silencer? No! There are some rumors that you need to have a “Class 3” license to own a silencer; but, this simply isn’t true. You do have to pay for a “tax stamp” when you first buy the suppressor – but there are no ongoing fees or licenses required. This tax is similar to paying sales tax on a purchase, except that it goes to the federal instead of the state government. Do you have any experience with the Surefire supressors? Thanks. |

Surefire has gone downhill badly; all of their products. :sigh: |
In Michigan if you comply with the Federal Requirements suppressors are legal. If you have one and haven't complied the process, paid for and received the proper authorization it is a 5 year felony.

Tim... one very important point regarding all Suppressors. Hollywood portrays them to be extremely quiet, sometimes even dead silent aka Pfft.
This couldn’t be further from the truth. Even using subsonic ammo in my MP5K 9mm they are far from quiet. What they will do, is change the sound signature to a loud clap. In addition, they mask the direction of the round fired. Of course on a rifle firing at 2500’+ per second, your sound will be that much louder. As more and more rounds are fired through a Suppressor, the exhaust gas residue will improve the level of suppression. Rather similar to a muffler being more quiet over time. PS: don’t ever clean your Silencer, it will just make it less efficient and louder. |
