UHQR Spindle Hole Size?

My first turntable in 30+ years has arrived! Clearaudio Ovation--sound is amazing (kicking myself for all those CD purchases), but on to the point...

While I was waiting, my dealer was kind enough to allow me to have a similar model on loan for several weeks. Of course, I had to have the new Steely Dan UHQRs, as well as Kind of Blue. On the demo turntable, the UHQR vinyl was mighty snug around the spindle getting all the way to the platter. But now with the Ovation, the spindle hole is too tight for me to risk playing at least half of these 6 discs.

Any advice? Thanks

Take a letter opener or similar dull and slightly tapered tool and rotate it gently in the hole a couple of times from each side.

ClearAudio makes a tool for that; albeit a bit expensive.

Yes, there are tools out there, but any Swiss Army knife does the job.[emoji41]

Please find this tool which is the correct size "drill bit" that can be used in a power drill or a handle like you would use with a thread tap. I have used it in the past, it costs only $7.00.

Thanks to all! You guys are great. You're show biz kids! I'm no longer kind of blue...

I will go to the hardware store today and pick up a 9/32 or 7.3mm bit

So much for those expensive records. They can't even get the hole size right. :redface-oops-6:

While you’re at it; put a handle on it. One that I made myself.

Interestingly, on that very subject--the excellent Acoustic Sounds customer service team responded in approximately the same time as the AA crew. They apologized and their recommendation was similar, but they also noted that they are "constantly" working to get the spindle holes as as snug as possible.

We might debate the value of $150 LPs, but I love their commitment to excellence

Looking online, Clearadio seem to be the only tool available made for this purpose. Building your own makes the msost sense. I have plenty of drill bits and will need to find some sort of handle. I occasionally run into an album that needs a little drilling.
