20amp to 15amp IEC Adapter

2 Attachment(s)
Hey Guys,

Has anyone used this IEC adapter to convert a 20amp power cable to 15amp to connect to an amp, preamp, or source component? Is it safe? It seems Voodoo Cable is only one of a few audiophile manufacturers of these IECs.

I did send Voodoo an inquiry and am pending their response. Thought I would also ask the forum experts.

Thanks in advance!

That should be safe provided you don't exceed 15A of current through it, and that shouldn't be difficult because few audio components will draw 20A of current. But it seems like a cumbersome solution - you could just as easily put a 20A receptacle in an existing outlet and keep it on a 15A breaker.

I have one in my adapter drawer and yes it works fine. It's not my preferred hookup method but for a situation where you don't have a 20 amp cord it gets the job done.

Yes, I use them when I need to. I’m also a dealer for their products, which are very well made.

Have you tried contacting stayonline.com? They made an adapter for me.

you need to be careful using adapters like this, a source or preamp probably fine, however a large amp it may not be, definately do not go from a 20a to 15a on a conditioner etc that everything is plugged into. a 20a cable/circuit is rated for 1920 watts, when you go to a 15a its rated at 1440 watts, thats total watts a cable is capable of, 20a is typically 12 gauge, 15a is 14 gauge. that derates amperage and current which is not good if you have a load and drive on the circuit

Jameslrock/Porsche993TT, thank you! Definitely not using as replacement for 20amp PC for a power conditioner.

As often heard on AA, Ivan takes care of business!

Just make sure you test out its grip before turning things on, especially if you're using heavy or stiff power cords. Hook it up and see how firmly it grips your component's IEC. VooDoo makes good stuff, and I have one of their adapters, but the grip wasn't as firm as I'd have liked. I think this is very equipment-dependent, and you may have no issues whatsoever.
