Great room and setup. But, here in AA we follow strict cable management system. Hope you follow it too.

Rhoddog 07-01-2016 12:34 PM

Obviously I do not ! Just kidding, I forgot to mention that this is a temporary set up in a room that is still being finished; walls to be painted, exposed ceiling to be stained and finished, and molding installed . The direct tv and accompanying connections will all be on the right side wall

FDPDK 07-01-2016 01:04 PM

Your speakers look great, and hopefully you enjoy them with the nice gear you have.
Thanks for sharing.

I'd be horrified if anyone looked at my wires, especially Ivan. He'd put me in the woofer cone of shame.

Just Love These Sopra No2's

2 Attachment(s)
I spent about nine months in my quest to move up from a pair of Totem Fire monitors (excellent speakers, but moved my system down to a much larger "man cave", could accommodate larger floor standing speakers), and was just "floored" listening to a pair of 1038BE's driven by the McIntosh C50/MC452.

I called one of my audio buddies leaving that demo and he said "stop the presses", that Focal was just about to introduce a new Sopra line.

Call me silly, but I ordered a pair of Sopra No2's sight unseen! They arrived in September of 2015, sounded really good after putting 200-300 hours on them, but when they were about six months old, really "settled down" and sound just awesome now...more "relaxed" and seem to be a bit more "dynamic".

In love!

My new Sopra 3's

I just took delivery of new Sopra No. 3's two weeks ago. As you can see in the photo, they're Imperial Red.

https://www.audioaficionado.org/pict...pictureid=4182

They've been breaking in and are starting to sound magnificent with about 100 hours of playing time.

John,
Very nice system!

The sofa is close, but I have to make compromises between speaker placement and furniture placement in this room. Actually the sofa helps with acoustic damping (also note the SONEX panels on the walls). With all the room damping, the sound in my room is exceptionally clear and clean, thanks to lack of reflections.

Some very nice Focal setups in this thread. I will get photos of my WIP (work-in-progress) stereo setup soon. Still breaking in the lovely 1038 Be IIs and have a lot to experiment with but I think my limiting factor is my living room as it is wide open and extends into the dining room/kitchen area as well as common areas.

I paid $7K shipped out the door for a brand new in box pair of 1038 Be II in the optional (more costly) Carrara white lacquer. Considering these MSRP around $13K, I feel like I got a heck of a deal not to mention these were purchased by an authorized dealer.

HOw did you get it for so cheap..... congrats on that deal!

I just negotiated a little and they were willing to meet me at a price point we would both be happy with. It was their last pair I believe so they were eager to make space and as they say, the rest is history

What's surprising is that the gray market/non-authorized dealers couldn't even get close to $7K delivered to my door.

Questortapes74 05-12-2017 03:14 PM

Congratulations Parodeca on your purchase, as you can see from the photo below, I too like white. I would have purchased red to match my drum set had there been grain veneers to match not just in walnut. Enjoy!!!

My Sopra 3's also in white. Luckily I had room to pull them away from back wall, I feel they really benefit from the space around them a lot.

mcpa76, beautiful system! Strange question but is that one of those mesh wifi units on the floor to the left of the rack?

Thank you! Yeah it is actually a 2 piece Orbi setup. Always had trouble getting my wifi signal downstairs without losing speed, these fixed that.

Congratulations mcpa76. Very nice and clean system and setup. Great enjoyment for years to come.

At Six Months These Speakers Will Settle Down!

I snagged one of the first pairs of Sopra No2's that hit Stateside, broke them in patiently, but one night, after I'd had them about six months, it seemed that they really "settled" down. I suspect you'll find that same with your Sopra No3's.

I find these speakers really excel at whatever you throw at them, all types of music, played quietly, modest volumes and (for me) loud (needles dancing around the 4.5 watt mark in my 24x26' room).

Questortapes74 08-25-2017 05:54 PM

@ejr1953 --- I agree that these Sopra #3's take some time to break in. I especially enjoy the midrange and mid-bass sound reproduction of the entire Sopra product line. Do you find that in your experience with your Sopra's?

@Blueoak --- I have really come to enjoy Focal over the years, but I enjoy and appreciate many brands. However if you have an interest in Focal specifically, I would encourage you to audition them and perhaps start with the Sopra product line. If you end up taking a listen, let me know what you think.

All the best!!!

100-200 Hour Break In/At Six Months Were "Awesome"

@Questortapes, when I received my Sopra's I queued up several days worth of varied music on my computer, running Roon, at a really low volume, then each day upped the volume a tiny bit, after around 200 hours still not at a "normal" listening level, but I thought that breaking these in "gently" would pay off. After around 200 hours I started listening to some of my favorite albums and was immediately awestruck!

It took quite some time to get the toe in "just right", the room is not the best with its acoustics, especially the bass response, but when I got the positions "just right", the Sopra's had the "performer in the room" presentation I'd never experienced with any other loudspeakers.

When I got the Sopra's "dialed in", I ordered a pair of JL Audio F113V2 sub woofers...and "all bets were off". The bass that the Sopra's had was good, but I've used subs now for years and find they add a dimension that side speakers can't add. But my "man cave" had terrible acoustics in the low registers, adding a single low bass note to the music, regardless of what the bass player was playing!

Long-story-short, I got the bass under control with Room EQ Wizard and a calibration microphone, to help tune the subs and position the 10 bass traps in the room.

Fast forward to the Sopra's six month anniversary, I had a weekend where I hung out for long stretches in the "man cave" enjoying several hours of music each day and it hit me that this system had really "settled down", the Sopra's really seemed to "relax".

For a guy who is oftentimes looking to change this-that-or-the-other, no plans to look at other speakers!

My Sopra n2 setup in a difficult room.

OK....so how do I post a picture of my system? I see no link and when I tried to drag a picture into my text, all I got was a link to something in cyberspace.
I'm an audiophile, not a computer expert and I've had a lot of difficulty using this forum so far.
Does it have to be this complicated to post, read, and reply to threads?

Steve

PS: HELP PLEASE !!!

I've got the Walnut Sopra n2's which seem to be a rarity for whatever reasons among Sopra Owners.
I like the contrast between the front baffle and the walnut. The painted colors, although a personal choice seem a bit cheap looking (painted) vs. the wood veneer.

I'd pick either black or red if the walnut wasn't available but I really love the Walnut and Black baffle.
