Storing Music Files

I'm looking to store some HiRez music files, and I'm looking for around a 5TB external hard drive. It's been suggested that I try an SSD but they seem to be limited in capacity. I have a Seagate Personal Cloud but it's a bit finicky.

I've been using the 8tb version of this drive for daily backups of my NAS for 5 years now with no hiccups.

I would only add that if you move to a purpose designed server that allows an internal HDD, I would highly recommend an SSD and to use it to serve your music. An internal SSD from a purpose built media server is superior to using an external USB hard drive.

Lastly, I would buy two of whatever you decide and make backups upon backups. Cannot have too many.

If I'm not using this for my daily backups, it will work just as a place to store my HiRez files?

Of course.

Is this for media storage/archival, or the place where your in-use library is?

SSD's are small, quiet, fast, energy-efficient, and expensive. However, they are not meant to be placed in a closet for long term archival. They are meant to be active.
