McIntosh MC462 finally arrived

1 Attachment(s)
I ordered the McIntosh Mc462, after cancelling the order for the MC1502.
This replaces the Mc312 I sold in April 2022.

It has been so awful to be without music at home since April. Thankfully there was good stereo in my Mazda Miata…..

Went to the MC462 as when I had the MC312 , I used the meters to judge what volume I was at because different music sources have different volume levels.

Most likely the MC462 is overkill in this apartment. At the most the meters will be peaking at 45 watts,

I find with the Magnepan’s the micro dynamics are very good + JL Audio subwoofer helps a lot.

Hopefully the MC462 is delivered tomorrow .

Not sure if I hear any difference between the MC312 and the MC462 but love the rack handles. Also cool that meters show peak of 1.8 KW….

Will post photos if any one wants to see updated system.

Congratulations new gear is always fun

miatadan, absolute congrats! With SS gear you can never have enough power. When Mr. D'Agostino was at Krell he said that if the amp is rated at 450 watts/ch, the best performance is at about 10% or 45 watts. Again absolute congrats. It's a wonderful amp.

Best

Congrats.
Now you have the power to step up to the Maggie 1.7i and really drive your neighbors nuts.

I used to have the Maggie MG 1.7i 10 years ago when I owned the MC302 and C2300 and at that time did not use an subwoofer. The room back than of more than double the length I have now. With the JL Audio d110 and Maggie 0.7, I have no complaints. Crossover set to 30Hz + volume is at 2 ( scale 0 to 10 )

Considering upgrading the AudioQuest Carbon USB-C to USB 2.0. Maybe change the speaker wire as using low cost “ The Chord Company Carnival “ , Cardas Crosslink 2 balanced interconnects. No idea which interconnects and speaker wire which work well with McIntosh.

Congrats Dan. I did the exact opposite. Went to my dealer to order an MC462 (which they had in stock). They took a deposit on it to hold it for me for a few days. In the end, I talked myself out of it and ordered an MC1502. Took nearly 6 months for it to arrive. Great amp!

From what I read the MC462 has 66% dynamic headroom / 3.0dB. Also noticed on the meters 900 mark , and 1.8K mark after the 450 watts.
The MC312 has 27% dynamic headroom / 2.3dB. In this case meters has 600 mark after the 300 watts.

This I think there is more reserve power to handle peaks as needed. Maybe this will be more effortless when playing music
