What's at the Heart of your System

Which flavor remote do you favor? I have tried so many remotes & complete systems. Some are too big, some are too complicated many just fall short.

What is your favorite?

Harmony stuff has always been nice. For real deal big boy stuff, Crestron.

If only the DirecTV DVR remote could control the volume on the MDA1K, I'd be set and only need that 1 remote for everything...

I had Crestron & found it big, clumsy & user unfriendly. :dunno:

Oldie but goodie Universal Remote Control MX-850's. Computer programmable with a "universal browser" function that lets you use Pronto and other codes for discrete commands for on/off, specific inputs, etc. I have one MX-850 each for my upstairs system, downstairs Zone A, downstairs Zone B, the patio/pool area (Zone 4), and two (his and hers) for the master bathroom (Zone 3). Off-the-charts wife acceptance factor with the macros I have programmed and great layout with a combination of hard keys and a user configurable LCD panel.

I have a couple of their newer remotes but never use them since I can easily program these, and Jenny loves them. Cheaper than new jewelry (less than $200 each)!:yes:

I've been generally happy with the Logitech Harmony 1000 (Logitech has since superseded it a couple months ago by the 1100, so I got the 1000 at a good discount back in December). It's got some quirks, but I've figured them out. I know Ivan found it limiting, but if there's some fine-tuning that needs to be done, it's out with the original remotes, and that's rare for what I need. It's a relatively few functions I need 99% of the time.

I really like the remote that comes with both the Ayre CDP and the KX-R. It controls both the preamp and CDP, is metal and has many functions as well as cool blue backlighting.

Logitech Harmony & I did not get along very well. A very short lived remote in my long list.

If you have survived this long with the remote you had at the 2008 Extravaganza, you will love the MX-850 with some of my programming tweaks. Give me a call at home tomorrow, and I'll be glad to see if I can help.

I think I will give it another look, thanks John.

I would be interested in knowing which route to take here. I need a remote for a c-2200, MS300, cable box and sony LDP tv. The rest I don't use enough to matter.
