Accuphase DAC-60

New plug-in DAC from Accuphase. Looks like it's using ESS chip vs AKM chip from the DAC-50. |
Now there’s the question, keep the DAC50 card or go to the DAC60
I am very happy with the results of the DAC50 card! |

I have been contemplating getting the DAC50. Maybe I pick up a DAC60 or find a nice price on the DAC50 [emoji847] |

I just spoke with an Accuphase dealer in Montreal about buying the E-280 with the DAC-50. I was informed that the DAC-50 was no longer available. When I asked about a possible replacement, I was told there was nothing forthcoming… which I found odd.

Is the DAC-60 an improvement, or just a replacement because the AKM DAC used in the DAC-50 is no longer available due to the fire which destroyed the AKM factory last year? The supported sampling rates seem to be the same for both boards.

According to Accuphase, the DAC-60 has 3 improvements vs the DAC-50:
1. The DAC is asynchronous. 2. Noise is 10% lower. 3. Supports markerless DSD* (sort of like native DSD instead of DoP) *Markerless DSD is a DSD transport which “does not burden the data stream with the DSD Markers that are inserted into the data in the case of DoP." |
