That stinks. REALLY.

You mean I have to move part of my body instead of just pressing my thumb against a button as the remote lies on my couch? :icon_thumbsdown: :icon_thumbsdown:

and I have to learn a whole bunch of gestures to make it work? :icon_thumbsdown: :icon_thumbsdown:

That's complex technology making me work harder to do something.

Ivan.......I don't want any device in my home watching me through a camera lens connected to the web. Nope, not going to happen. It is a potential intrusion which can be used for nefarious intent. No matter the touted convenience, it's much too Orwellian for me.

Samsung had that problem with their gesture controls. It watched the people in the room and the people didn't like it.


Also, suppose someone stretches or something that the tv picks up as a gesture to do something when it was an unintended gesture?

The entire idea is terribly flawed.

I don't like being watched.

Even though I have the camera turned off, I don't trust anybody outside the house who might gain access so I covered the camera with a band-aid.

It works better than black electrical tape because the camera can still pick up ambient light levels and adjust the keyboard lighting.

+1 My thoughts exactly. And that again for the in-TV camera as noted by Dan.

Same for GUI based car controls that make you take your eye off the road to locate your finger on a screen. I prefer the affirmative press of a button.

A small piece of blue carpenter tape is a good choice for phone/laptop/monitor cameras. Blocks light, easy to remove and leaves no residue.

I could not agree more! These cameras are a very creepy concept.

They will probably want to have facial recognition in the gesturing controls so only certain channels will be available.

While they are at it, they will put a V-chip into it so a 12 year old can't watch porn or violent movies (seriously, why deprive the kid of his rites of adolescence?) or have the camera look around the room to see that 12 year olds in the room are accompanied by an adult when they watch an R rated movie. The problems of intrusion and big brother watching go on and on.

Gesturing TV controls are a VERY BAD thing.

A few years ago, some schools gave students laptops to use and lo and behold, the camera was ALWAYS ON and the school was spying on the students whenever the laptop was opened. Once this was discovered, there was a good lawsuit and the schools had to pay restitution.

could you imagine when a ref makes a bad sports call on your team and the gesture is .... oh my... like Dan, NO smart TV no web cam no thank you. I prefer my privacy period :)
