I actually had all their reference equipment;

For what it's worth, Hi-Fi News really liked it, and I've found their reviews to be pretty thoughtful. My guess is the preamp will sound fine, depending of course on what you pair it with. The only concern I'd have is that it's a 10 year old design that still uses the Burr-Brown DAC, and there have been a lot of advances in DAC technology since that chip was introduced - but that doesn't mean it couldn't still sound great in a well-implemented design, which I'm sure the TAD is. Congratulations. Attachment 67940

I owned the R1 Mk2 speakers for quite a while, easily qualifies as one of the best speakers in the world.
They need room to breathe, proper placememt and audiophile grade cables and they do sound amazing. As far as TAD Reference electronics,..have heard the monos, pre, and CD/SACD components multiple times. While I prefer the Esoteric line sonic signature, I would suggest they still rank up there as a top choice in the sonic family of other great product lines. They need proper racks & footers, (except the monos that have them built in), proper placement and audiophile grade cabling to sound up to their potential. I cannot speak for the component you purchased however. |
I'm not sure if this link will work here, but I found it quite entertaining. I own Mark's R1 Mk II's and quite enjoy them. I don't have a line array though (like the guy in the video) ... yet. I also enjoyed the TAD CR-1s that Ivan sold me. I don't have any direct experience with the TAD electronics though, but I'll bet it doesn't suck.
