What is your experience of Meridian?
I guess as a Meridian user I should at least start a thread. I am a quite recent convert to the Meridian system although I have followed their products for quite some time.
Meridian's strengths is also their weakness in that you can have a very simple and extraordinary system put together but it excels mainly in the digital zone. My system consists of a 808i.2 cdp / preamp through which i have my Avid tt plugged into the analogue inputs on the back of the cdp. A pair of exquisite DSP 8000 speakers completes the 2 channel set up. I am expecting to add a 861 processor and a single dsp 7000 vertical centre very soon. Tell us of your meridian experience. howie |
I absolutely love Meridian. Still, to date, one of the FINEST HT setup's I have ever listened to was based off of an entire DSP8000 system. Abso-frecking-lutely increadible.
The 800 series processors are something to be reckoned with, and the Meridian Room Correction software is probably the best out there. I can't wait for their full HDMI1.3a update with the new CODECs. |

I played with it - it is still mostly used for video switching. Since they can't handle the new codec's yet it is the interim solution. You can still get the lossy feeds from it, though.

I've had at least 3 of their various generations of the "5" series CDPs. I've always thought they were great CDPs, refined, smooth sounding. Have not heard any of the recent stuff at all.

I would really like to hear what you think of your 808vII. My local Meridian dealer does not even have one in stock to play with let alone for a home demo. You are correct that the 2 pcs you have is one of the simplest yet high quality systems you can put together. Even the 5200 are fast an tuneful. Jim |

SE Michigan is not exactly a Mecca of 2 channel audio. We are fortunate that we do not mind driving around here. I am about 45 miles from the two McIntosh Dealers that actually stock product. The Ayre Dealer keeps very little and he is also the Magnapan and Audio Research Dealer. His shop is setup very poorly. The JM Lab dealer no longer carries the Utopia line. Quad, CJ, Accuphase and DCS are only sold out of a homes. I could go on but why. |
