What was I Thinking?

A few years ago Ivan offered me a deal on a new JL Audio Fathom F113v2. It would have been my second and at the time I was thinking “I don’t need no second sub”. Boy was I stupid.

I just setup and integrated a second Fathom into my system at a considerable increase in cost and have to say, it has done amazing things to my room. Not only is the bass more accurate, my sound stage has opened up even more. How a sub aids the sound stage I may never understand but wow!, it’s amazing. The Strads are plugged in the rear and crossover is set at 60Hz.

The pic shows the new one on the left waiting for its SoundAnchor stand to arrive and further refine the sound but OMG.

I will be up late tonight.

It’s incredible the improvement brought by dual subwoofers.....the bass in your room is much more easily smoothed out and extended. I bet the dual JLs sound impressive no doubt. I’ll hear ‘em someday!

I always thought you had two. 🤷🏼

Welcome to the club. Btw, you’re the reason I bought the CR-1. Amazing stuff!

You’re smarter than I am. I have been holding onto one sub for a few years. Geesh!

The CR-1 makes it easier to ‘tune’ them. Setting levels and aligning phase for two subs is complicated. I am close but not quite there.

Far from it. Ivan is the smart one. I smile every time the delay of the subs kicks in. World of difference. Cheers, enjoy!

Ps...yes, the CR-1 makes it super easy to integrate the subs. I may not have it set properly, but it’s 90% there!

Impressive set-up, Craig. To improve the sound even more, just remove the picture of the new Yankee Stadium. Send up it here to Boston; I will take good care of it.

Just for you!

And Jeter’s last at bat. A game winning walk off...

I have spent many hours over the last two days listening to my system. With the addition of the second sub, there were two levels of improvement in my system. One directly as a result of the sub, smoother and deeper overall low frequency response on my room. SOLD!

The second was, I believe, an indirect benefit. The sound stage has opened up, gotten deeper and less center focused. Backing up, I have been wondering why lately, I felt like my stage had collapsed into the center. Great center focus at the expense of scale.

I am blaming the center placement of the single sub as the culprit. Placing it and the new sub just inside each Main speaker has had a magnificent impact on the sound stage.

It really speaks to the importance of keeping the area between your speakers (at least Strads) free of equipment and other paraphernalia.

......single. But, good enough. Great way to sign off for pretty much a class act.

Single yes, but he hit it where he wanted, to right field to score the runner from second. I watched it. He was a special ball player and is a special human being.

Jeter is an icon. Much admired, even here :) .
My wife and I were at a Yankees/Red Sox game, in 2017 (those are hard tickets to get...). Dustin Pedrioa turned a nice double play at second. Who was up at the dugout railing clapping for him? Derek.

We have also gone to Fenway for some concerts - great venue for baseball, pretty lousy for acoustics, to bring it back on topic a bit.
