WW2 modeling
 

Here is one of my other hobbies that I enjoy from time to time. :thumbsup:

What I love the most about plastic models is that besides building it, which is time consuming but therapeutic :D, one gets to see the project through to completion and finish the model the way one imagines it and sees it.

My favorite plastic modeling subject is WW2 armor and vehicles. Both Axis and Allies. Since the armor/vehicles were never spotless and clean, having seen some really rough action and battles, it adds a whole other dimension as to how to "weather" and add "wear/tear" to the models for more realism to a plastic model.

I've only started enjoying this hobby recently and it was a steep learning skill with building, air brushing, weathering, etc... It is a time consuming hobby for sure. So far I'm having a lot of fun with it.

Soviet WW2 T-34/76 tank. It is not only the most produced tank of the WWII-era, with 84,000 built (compared to the 48,966 Shermans of all versions) but also one of the longest-serving tanks ever built.

The Axis armor is a very popular modeling subject among the modelers.

Here is a model I did last year. It is a Panzer III Ausf N from the Deutsches AfrikaKorps (DAK) led by field marshal Erwin Rommel in the North African campaign. Most historians say it was the last of the "gentleman's war" as far as WW2 goes.

The Panzer III Ausf N was designed as a close-support infantry gun firing a high-explosive shell (hence the relatively short barrel) but was also effective against the tanks it faced early in the war.

I modeled the model to look battlefield worn from the harsh, sandy and dusty conditions the troops encountered in the North African environment.

Thanks Marc. Never thought I'd get into model building but I'm having fun with it. Not artistic but learning airbrushing was a lot of fun. :yes:

Here is a model I really enjoyed working on and it took about 3 weeks to complete. Very detailed model with lots of parts... :sigh:

Wow. I have a bunch of old unopened models (three boxes). I’ll send some pics;)

Very nice specimens. As a young kid I used to build the Tamiya brand models (like you, WWI amour). These were motorized with wired controllers. I did not spend the time painting afterwards - just wanted to get it up and running.

The coolest thing I’ve seen lately. Great detail, especially for a self confessed beginner. I think they are awesome.

WWII 1.5T Soviet ZIS truck. Produced in large numbers from 1932 to 1948. They were the workhorses of the war for the Soviets. Smaller 1/48 scale.

I thought the mud on the soldiers boots would add even more realism.

Panzer Kampfwagen II Ausf F tank. As it was at the end of the French campaign.

German forces began Fall Rot (Case Red) on 5 June. The sixty remaining French divisions and the two British divisions in France made a determined stand on the Somme and Aisne but were defeated by the German combination of air superiority and armoured mobility.

German tanks outflanked the Maginot Line and pushed deep into France, occupying Paris unopposed on 14 June. After the flight of the French government and the collapse of the French Army, German commanders met with French officials on 18 June to negotiate an end to hostilities.

I did this in my early teens.
By the age of 15, I had a whole scenery of WWII in my room. It was filled with the North African war, with sand, soldiers, tanks, trucks, Kübelwagen, buildings, airplanes in the air and all that stuff.
My mother went crazy after a while and I couldn't keep it for long. :D

I must still have some paints, brushes and boxes lying somewhere in the house.

Thanks Bart. I have a dedicated room for the modeling and my mom lives in a different state. Safe to say she will not be invading my hobby space. :D My wife supports it and always compliments the work... Whatever keeps me occupied I think.... :lmao:

WWII Soviet Field Commander.

This project was kicking my butt as painting flesh tones and especially the face turned out rather difficult on this larger scale model.

Tedious & dedication = perfection. :ok:

Yes, usually... Painting those medals was just about the edge of my nerves and eye resolution. :D

Tiny 1/100 scale. Not doing that scale again. :D Difficult to airbrush something that small.

1945 German MAN AG Panther tank.

By 1945, the resources and supplies were running low. Paint was also in short supply. This Panther is modeled in “Improvised Camouflage” with the Red Oxide Primer and the Dunkelgelb paint that would have left the factory in the spring of 1945.

I always love your model posts. Amazing work. I don’t think I have the eyes or the hands for it!

The actual camo colors and schemes are forever debated in various model hobbyist forums to the point of absurdity :D

Thank you and I totally agree. He was not trying to match anything—isldont think— he was just having fun. I played with that tank— it was a Tamiya motorized tank— for years.
