Shindo Apetite integrated amp wih cv428 tubes

I'm trying to get some information on the early Apetite using cv428 tubes. From what I've learned so far, in Europe this model was sold as a kit. Was it also sold assembled by Shindo in Europe? On European audio websites, I sell this amp selling for $1250 to $2800. I suspect the price range might be the difference between kits vs. factory assembled.

In 2004, Tone Imports bought a few of these Apetite models assembled by Shindo. The model was then discounted. A few years later, Shindo resurrected the name for an integrated amp using the 6v6 tubes.

Does anyone here own a Shindo integrated amp? If so, how do you like it and how does it compare to Shindo separates?

And any idea on these units sold for originally?

Thanks,
Russ

Hello,
I cannot help on the CV428.
I have owned the Apetite 6L6.
This was a stunning little amp, able to drive many speakers if you were not searching for insane spl. I liked it a lot.
At the same time I owned the Giscours preamp and the CCQ amps. Of course this was in a complete different league.
Today I own the little Leben C300XS which I use on Audio Note AN-J Spe Hemp Silver Coils speakers. I do not own any more the Apetite to compare with the Leben so I must rely on my memory only. Seems to me that the Leben is more versatile and does not loose much in musicality versus the little Shindo.
Maybe that the Apetite had a bit more “soul”. A touch of magic compared to the Leben but honestly I am not sure.
I find the Leben to be fabulous on the right speakers and I do not see myself selling it one day.

Thanks, I may consider the 6v6 Apetite as well, so thanks for your comments.

Hello, did you purchases the Apetite? I'm looking at one now. I want to use Klipsch RP600m with it.

Hi Jerome,

Do you still own Shindo gear? I had a great time going through your many past posts :-)

I have tried a few tube amplifiers un the past 4 years including the Leben CS300xs. One thing that I found strange in the Leben is how upfront the soundstage was. I only tried it with Chartwell LS3/5a. With Luxman mq-88uc, sq-n100 and Shindo CC80 the soundstage is always behind the speakers. With the Leben it floats about 1m in front of the speakers.

Frankly speaking I don't know which one is "correct ". What's your experience?

cheers
F
