One year ago today...

It's already been one year since we lost a great friend and asset to this forum. The passing of Dan aka jdandy came as a shock to many of us here; for me it was a deep personal loss. The loss to our forum was great; Dan's presence here was huge, and his contributions were far reaching. It's really hard to convey in words, but I know many of us will always remember the way Dan would go above and beyond to help anyone who had a question or problem, and of course his extremely detailed and informative reviews were unmatched.

I greatly miss the many times Dan and I would get together, either at his place or mine, to enjoy our gear, our music, and just have a great time talking about everything from A to Z. His longtime companion Marlene was a wonderful person as well, and I know Dan was deeply grieved by her passing just a bit over a year before his own passing.

I'll never forget talking to Dan during his last weeks as he struggled through his escalating health issues. In the end, he made the courageous decision to discontinue treatments and move on so he could be rejoined with his love Marlene. Talking to Dan on his very last day was a deeply emotional experience, knowing that when we hung up our phones I would never hear his voice again. It was a day I'll never forget.

I post this thread in memory and tribute to our friend Dan Daniell, who I think of daily. :tears:

RIP Dan, you are missed...

Pete, Dan's friendship was special and one can only imagine how difficult it was to let go of a friend that day. Sometimes life presents us with challenges that are difficult to process and comprehend.

Vintage Pete, thanks for your thoughtful tribute. Your loss is greater than mine because I didn't know Dan personally. Still, I miss him on this site and I know I'm not the only one who misses your friend.

One of the things that makes AA special - aside from it being The Friendly Forum for High-End Audio - is that it's a real community. Of course, many online forums are a "community," but only in a virtual sense. Here it's genuine - users who actually know each other, visit with each other and care for each other.

So I am sorry for your loss, Pete. I know Dan was a special guy and that a good friend is a very precious thing.

Pete... thank you for your Tribute to Dan. This last year has brought about so many changes, many unimaginable in scope and effect.

Dan’s passing was monumental for me also. Not a day goes by that I don’t miss him, think of him, or want to call him.

They say time heals all, we shall see because I certainly am not healed over the loss of a great friend, a most generous and caring soul.

I think time does heal all. But that doesn't mean that a scar won't remain.
