Sony XW7000ES/6000ES 3D

For those who interested in 3D and have or are going to have either the Sony XW7000E or 6000ES, I'll share what I have learned. The two Sony's are 3D capable, but they won't do 3D out of the box. Sony doesn't give much help here. I did manage to find help from Mike Garrett at AVScience.com. He sent me the pdf attachment below.

There seem to be two routes, one through Expand and one through Volfoni. In both cases, you will need a 3D emitter and 3D glasses (my Sony glasses won't work). Retailers are charging too much for the Expand - about $1500 for the emitter. Both emitters involve finding difficult to find adapters. The Volfoni is the easier of the two, and the one I am using.

Finding the products is a problem. I imported mine from Immersive Display out of France. https://immersive-display.com/en/

Immersive Display offers both the emitter and the glasses. The emitter cost about 335 Euros including shipping; however, the real price comes later after VAT and customs. Still, the price didn't change much. I paid through PayPal. The simpler 3D glasses cost about 72 Euros each. The more expensive but better virtual glasses cost about 233 Euros.

Shipping was relatively fast, and communication via the website was quick and easy -- also in English.

I post this now that for those die-hard 3D fans who are awaiting James Cameron's release of Avatar the Way of the Water on 3D and for those who know niche companies are still releasing 3D disks.

Thanks for posting this as I just bought the 6000es. I’m already very happy with their 2d picture quality. At least now I have something to look forward to and now I know where to go to for the emitter and 3D glasses, thanks to you.

You are welcome. I probably should have posted this sooner. If you do spring for the 3D setup, consider the more expensive glasses. They are visibly better, brighter. All the glasses are USB battery powered. My theater chairs each have a USB port for charging.

I, too, have the 6000es which I bought from Ivan.

3D is niche, but it is not dead. Catalog titles are released frequently.
