Anyone here driving Mac (integrated or separates)) with Harbeth Loudspeakers ?
Hi guys,
Care to elaborate, what amp , integrated amp with any of the Harbeth Loudspeakers... e.g. MA252 with harbeth SHL5 plus... thanks SLM |
Yes, C7ES-3 w a MC152 amp and C1100 preamp
|
Using C2300 with MC302 on my Harbeth Hl5+ and it sounds fantastic!
|
also heard them Mc302 with M30.2 = sounds heaven!!
|
Just wondering, did the speakers preceded the components or did the speakers get added to the Mac gear? For me the speakers were matched to the Macs and my room (which is small)
|
Speakers first then amplifier..
|
Why did you choose the Herbert and what else did you demo?
|
im a long time harbeth user..
|
I own ca. 30 Mcintosh amps of which I used ca 15 Mcintosh amps with 3 Harbeths Speakers (2*Harbeth P3ESR and 1 Harbeth M 30.1).
The combination between Mcintosh and Harbeths speakers are always great, but I had also great results with my Accuphase amps and Harbeths speakers. Harbeths Speakers are very easy to drive but have quite a low sensivity. Harbeths speakers love the power from Mcintosh or Accuphase amps. Best regards Martin |
Auditioned the latest Harbeth 30.1 with an MA252 and found the mid-range a bit congested on some of the more complex (full orchestra) recordings I listened to. They did not have the up-graded 30.2 available and makes me wondering of that was a problem with the Harbeths or the MA252. Whatever, on the majority of the music I listened to it was a terrific, very musical combination.

Quite funny there is no dedicated Harbeth Forum, I am suuree there are a huge number of Harbeth owners in the USA. It would be nice to have Harbeth added to the manufacturer's forum and invite Alan Shaw on board.

Change the Tannoy forum to an English Speaker forum perhaps? Ask Ivan.

Close, not Harbeths but Spendors
I drive Spendor S100s (very similar sound and philosophy to Harbeth) with an MC275 and a C2200 pre. Its the best sound I've gotten, and I've had some pretty good systems in the past.
Of course its a matter of taste, but I've found as I've matured in this hobby I've moved from striving for the cool effects and the last degree of detail to something that tonally conveys music. Mac tubes and good Brit speakers give you such a natural, non-hifi, unhyped but sheer musical presentation that I find myself listening for hours. In fact yesterday it was over 12 hours! With earlier systems I'd have gone to the TV and zoned out on cable news after an hour or two. I could never go back to Audio Research and their "high definition" take on tubes or to the electrostats or Vandy Model 5s I had before the Spendors. |
I've been driving my C7ES3's with a MA252 for close to a year now and have been very pleased with the SQ.

MCD500 player
MC202 amp C220 pre In use with Harbeth SHL5+ speakers for the past few weeks. Previous was Revel f208's but in all honesty the Harbeth's are the best sounding speakers that I have owned and seem to fit my room perfectly. |
Driving SHL5s with MC275 & C2300, pure heaven!

Anyone here driving Mac integrated or separates with Harbeth Loudspeakers
Pretty much the subject says it all. Acquired the D-104 with W2ENY mod and looking to wire it up to the FT-891 Yaesu. I don't need a lesson in why I don't want to use the D-104 with a modern radio. Just need instructions on how to wire this up. I'm finding bits and pieces here and there and tried to pull the instructions off the W2ENY site but I get page not found.

Hmmmm............. is the Yaesu FT-891 you are talking about?
http://www.yaesu.com/airband/indexVS...2&isArchived=1 And, is this W2ENY mod you speak of? http://w2eny.com/D104UpgradeKit/ RemontInvertor - I'm wondering if you might be on the wrong forum. This is an audio (as in stereo) forum and your listed gear (excepting the Harbeth speakers) appear to be short-wave radio transceiver & microphone. Also, one does not drive a Mac (Mcintosh?) integrated or separates with Harbeth loudspeakers. It is the other way round with the integrated or separates providing the power to drive the loudspeakers. The output power of the Yaesu appears to be broadcast power and not power to drive speakers. Feel free to correct me if I've misunderstood. |

I’m glad you figured it out. I was scratching my head after reading his post😂 |
MC601s with SHL5+ XD’s. Lovely.
|
Just wondering what posts everyone has their shl5’s connected too? 4 ohm or 8 ohm, and is there a noticeable difference?
