Labor of love
These silver beauties, late ‘70s vintage Yamaha CA-1010 integrated and CT-1010 tuner, were the pride of my best friend, who passed away 21 years ago. Last year his wife was cleaning house to sell the old homestead and didn’t know what to do with them, so I bought them from her for $500. My friend John was like a brother to me, and restoring these has been a labor of love - they had been in storage for a long time, had 40 years of accumulated grime, several bad caps in the amp, sticking and corroded controls, etc.
I’ve done most of the work myself, but did have a local tech I trust do the caps. They’re now in service in my workshop, along with a Schiit Bifrost, Squeezebox Touch and a pair of Martin Logan Motions, and making good music again. https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-9Qmdp7q-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-LBXbw97-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-8xJCnXq-L.jpg https://photos.smugmug.com/photos/i-...-cG6JDWr-L.jpg |
It's always nice to see the older audio gear get a new lease on life. Thanks for sharing your story.

Tony, what a beauties!
They do connect you in a way with your best friend. Wherever he is, he'll be happy to see how you treated them... |
Thanks guys, it’s been a really fun and rewarding project.

These units are timeless classics- they will probably outlast you & your great grandchildren will be using them in the future (I hope!- well maybe just the amp, radio is already on death row)

Tony.......It is great that you are able to enjoy the gear your friend loved so much, and at the same time breathe new life into good quality vintage gear. I have a fondness for certain vintage audio gear, too. Happy listening.
