Audio Gear Smuggling
This will be a funny thread, especially for those that can safely post about it. :D
What was your greatest coup in smuggling new gear in the house without getting caught by your significant other? |
It’s only proper that I should go first. Now I have a spectacular marriage w/ Donna for over 30 years.
We have one simple rule regarding each other spending large sums of money. Right there is a huge loophole; we don’t have a clear definition for major purchases. To me, a major purchase is a new Italian Sports Car. This leaves a lot of room open for interpretation/negotiation. So without ado, I pretty much have a free hand to buy any audio gear I want. I usually don’t get any blow black; however on occasion when lots of freight trucks show up too often, I’m faced with the dreaded question “I see you bought some new gear” (she also has a remarkable skill of assessing the cost) So, I have to remind her “that is the gear that’s been out for months on warranty repair”. With all the gear I own, it’s not quite a lie. Gross misrepresentation; hardly. I of course, after all approve anything she wants/buys. More to follow… |
That is an advantage of sending everyone off to the summer shack, I rely on short-term memory loss :)

Deliveries must be timed while significant other is out of the house....or if its small enough, its sent to the office.
There is no quid pro quo or we would be broke...lol |

Thankfully, I got home before anyone else. Reminded me of the days when Id race to the mailbox to pull out a less than stellar report card so my wouldn't see the C's and the D i got in geography. |

Local Fedex is only a few miles away. Just have it held there until I can pick it up while grocery shopping or getting gas or whatever. Then leave in the back of the car until an opportune time presents itself to move whatever into the house. They say timing is everything in life. Happy wife, happy life.............
Mostly, my wife is a good sport about my hobby. As long as it does not impact our travel budget she's good. |
I usually have no problems as I "trade" for something new. I never lie, just do not go into details unless I am asked. It helps to be in charge of the banking...! I trade audio gear, watches and camera gear.
