In Need Of...
...a Roon digital bridge/network streamer.
My RPI4B gave it up recently. The ethernet port seems to have died so I cannot complete the network connection and create that digital bridge Roon looks for. I'd also like to cease using the silly McIntosh USB 2.0 drivers and utilize an optical output on the bridge to connect to my D100. I don't necessarily need to stream from outside sources (Amazon Music, Spotify, etc...) but having the feature may come in to play in the future. So, I'd like ethernet in/optical out, Roon ready, plug and play to replace the RPI. Any suggestions? Thanks! |
Budget?

I got me an Intel NUC about 6 months ago and a fanless case. Very inexpensive (relative to my Sigma USB cable) and works great. If you locate the NUC outside of your music room then you don’t even need the fanless case. There are myriads of other options, but I am very happy with this one. Search Roon Rock and you will see all you need to know about using a NUC.

Thanks for the recommendation! |
Do you already have a server/computer/music storage?
The digital coax would be my preference over optical for the input as it will support a wider range of digital formats (in most cases) |

The D100 does have a USB input and I used that for some time, about 5 years IIRC, and the RPI died. The RPI only had a USB output which meant I needed to download a set of USB drivers from McIntosh to use the USB connection with the RPI and Roon in play. I'd like to avoid repeating that particular configuration by finding something that has an optical out. The optical input on the D100 will process PCM files up to 24/192 which is just fine with me. |
Mercury streamer from pi2design. Plug and play for ROON with ROPIEEE loaded at factory.
Inputs: Ethernet and WiFi. Ethernet is isolated and reclocked. Outputs: Optical, AES, S/PDIF, USB all active. Michael’s designs are outstanding. No fairy dust, just good engineering. https://www.pi2design.com/mercury-streamer-v2.html |
