Ma-1200
I will be on the look for one of these amps.I am using a C-1000p 2pc preamp and MC-501’s and I am looking to downsize.

I am seriously considering the MA12000. I currently have (& love) an MA8900, but Im thinking the MA12000 may be a significant step up with the increase in power & the tube pre-amp stage. Couple of questions for anyone that may have first hand experience with the MA12000...
-Those tubes look pretty tucked into the unit, when it comes time for replacement I wonder if that will be a hassle? Would one go in from the top, the front...or just have to send it in to McIntosh for service...I skimmed the manual & didn't see any recommended instructions to replace the tubes? -Any of you have any feedback on the direct comparison of the MA12000 with either the MA8900 or MA9000? Small step up or Big step up in sound quality? Thanks All! |
I can’t speak to the comparison directly but all my solid state McIntosh preamps have been sold and the tube ones are staying.
|
It was a big step up, in my system, over the MA9000 it replaced. No idea on tube replacement mind you so be curious to know what people think about that.

On my pre-amp, I ran the tubes ~2 years (like on 72 hours/week). I replaced them just cause. It slightly improved clarity/bass. Cost/benefit, I might just do it every year. I think they would have gone a lot longer... |
Msrp?
