Integrated amp suggestions.
I am again looking for another integrated amplifier (for a different system)…this time something relatively modest as it will be running a pair of B&W 805S. Price point is around the $ 2k range. Anyone have any integrated favourites for this job ? Source will be various digital content from a DAC.

Any special brand?

I've always thought there was a great synergy between my Bryston B-60R and B&W CDM1 SE setup, so that may be worth checking out.

Preference in terms of tube vs. SS? Consider used or only new?
|
Going to the used market here are a few suggestions, 2 SS and 2 tube:
McIntosh MA6500 Marantz K1 Pearl Edition Cary SLI-80 Manley Labs Stingray I've owned both the Mac and the Cary and was quite happy with those. :D |
I used to own the 805S for several years. From my experience, tube will work better.

No one here ever talks about Musical Fidelity - but this British company makes exceptional, modestly priced integrated amplifiers, CD players and a variety of other very good to excellent equipment.
Over the years, I've owned several of their products and they are very, very good at their price points. A good choice would be a used A-5 or A-5.5 - see the review on 6 Moons at: 6moons audio reviews: Musical Fidelity A5 CDP*& Integrated These integrated amps are available used at well under $2,000, are very well made and possess prodigious clean and pure power. They include a very good phono stage and sound terrific. http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/m...y/hero_duo.jpg http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/m...hero_intro.jpg |
.. this might be a viable choice...

But, the guy asked for recommendations on $2,000 integrated amps and you have come up with one that costs about $12,000 new - If you can find any in the $2,000 range, I'll take two dozen, and give him one of them for free! |
