Led Zeppelin IV - 8 Nov. 1971
Hard to believe that this album turns 50 today. There were a lot of great albums form the 70/71 era, but this one arguably got more air play over the next 15-20 years than just about anything. IMO Stairway to Heaven did get overplayed on FM radio and dorm rooms, but a listen to the album today does bring appreciation of what Zeppelin accomplished with IV.
It kind of messes with your mind to think that 50 years before that - 1921 - commercial radio was just getting started and jazz by Louis Armstrong and others was gaining its sea-legs. |

I wonder if they will do an Anniversary edition?

Forget the anniversary edition, someone on AA needs to take one for the team and buy one of the Classic Records 45 RPM flight cases when we see it on eBay or the like......only set us back around $12,000 but maybe we can just ship it month by month to various members. :D

I remember when it was available thru the usual online vendors for $750 and i thought that was outrageous. I opted to buy all the Classic 33 1/3 separately ….. for the princely sum of $33/each. Of course they are all fantastic and a bargain at that price (wish I bought 2 copies of each!! Who thought then they would be an investment vehicle). Wish I would’ve caved and bought the roadcase when I had the chance. Happy anniv LZIV. I too just celebrated the 50 year marker. What a great year 1971 was for Rock n Roll. Guess that’s why it’s in my blood. |
