Mono Carts, Anyone?
To dip my toe into the waters of mono-cartridges I recently purchased an AT-MONO3/LP, which is an inexpensive mono MC cartridge. Have to admit.......... mono carts for mono LPs is "where its at". On the several mono LPs where I've played the AT and any of my stereo carts, the mono cart is the clear winner.
Now that I'm good with a mono cart, I want to move up to something better. AT offers the AT33-MONO, a significant upgrade from the -MONO3/LP, Ortofon offers a number of models, as does Grado. Lyra, Miyajima, Hana and other well-known names offer mono carts from mild-to-wild in cost (and, will assume, performance). Looking for feedback from anyone who is using/has used a mono cartridge and what your experience might be. I'm self-limiting to Ortofon Cadenza Mono at about $1250 MSRP as the most I would spend. Thanks for any feedback. |
I have a Miyajima Premium BE and old Lyra Helikon. Neither were that expensive and both sound great.

The Ortofon Cadenza Mono seems like a great choice - lots of very positive online reviews along with the entire Cadenza line. Could be the best mono price/performance.
Seems to be one of those rare products that would guarantee a “wow” at first listen. |
Bought the Tedeska DT 101L about a year ago. Couldn’t have been more happy. The builder is a real artist.

What about the Ortofon 2m Mono SE? Anyone have that?

I to have the AT-MONO3/LP.
I don't have enough Mono Records to justify spending more (about 20 Records) and have been very happy with the cartridge. When I do upgrade I'm looking at the Hana SH Mono. I use a Hana ML as my main Stereo Cartridge and love it, so logical to try the Mono Hana. |
Senza… Welcome to AA!

Hello
I was here for some time, but if I am an avid reader, I’m shy for writing. English is not my native language.

Lurking here. I have the Grado Master2 (mono) and absolutely love it. I'm looking to move up the chain as I also have found that a mono cart on a mono record is a really great experience. Good thing about mono is some of the used offerings are not as highly priced as one finds elsewhere in the record racks these days.
